New permanent cathode plates
We manufacture new permanent and complete cathode plates for copper, zinc and nickel refineries according to each client's requirements.
The new plates are manufacture in our Finnish factory located in Parkano, Finland. Complete plates can include laser-welded hanger bars, permanent edge strips, hooks, V-grooves, and other optional features tailored to the customer's needs.
Hanger bar
We offer different types of hanger bars, for example:

Explosion bonded : solid copper bar 98,99% Cu with 316 L stainless steel cover.

Cathodex own design.
We also manufacture lifting hooks and lifting holes. Customised contact pieces can be manufactured to meet the customer's specific needs.

Cathodex Oy started its operations in 1996 as a development company of SKM Teollisuusmuovit Oy. Cathodex Oy focused on the development of different production technologies for cathode plates. And at the end of 1990’s the company delivered the first cathode plates based on its own edge strip technology.
The patented technology of Cathodex provides better solutions to manufacture cathode plates.
We offer customized permanent cathodes for customers producing copper, nickel and zinc. Complete cathode plates are manufactured according to each client’s specific requirements.
Technology provides the long-term cathode plate operating life resulting in significant cost savings in cathode plate maintenance.
Cathodex welds edge strips to the cathode sheets and manufactures cathode plates in Finland.
Our manufacturing method helps to eliminate any space left between the plate and the edge strips, avoiding the growth of copper, nickel or zinc on top or under the edge strips.

Stainless steel sheets
Material: 316L EN 1.4404 2B, cold rolled, heat treated, pickled, skin passed.
Titanium sheets
Material: ASTM B265 Ti Gr2
Aluminium sheets
Different type of alloys and tempers according to the customer’s needs, plate thickness 5-7 mm
For example 1050 H14, 1070 H14, 1200A H14
Cathodex permanent edge strip materials:

Copolymer granules for aluminium plates
The material used for the edge strips depends on the sheet material, as well as on the temperature of the solution used in each refinery.
Hanger bar
We offer different types of hanger bars:

Explosion-bonded hanger bars with a core material of Cu (min. 99.98%) and a coating material of AISI 316L.

Stainless steel-clad copper tube hanger bars, copper tube bar inside the stainless steel bar.

The sheets are laser welded or MIG welded into to the hanger bar.

Customised contact pieces, lifting hooks and lifting holes can also be manufactured according to the customer’s needs
Equipment
For new cathode plates
We have different machines and equipment to manufacture and customize new cathode plates.
Our annual production capacity is 200 000 plates.
This equipment consists of:
Automatic Production Line
Extrudes the permanent edge strips automatically for new plates without welded hanger bars.
It can be used of aluminium, stainless steel and titanium plates.
Automated V-groove Unit
It makes the V-groove cut at the bottom edge of the plate, if required by the customer.
Straightening And Tension Removal
It is used during the final manufacturing phase to straighten and remove all tensions from the plate, assuring its verticality.
Plate perforation is carried out by a subcontractor using laser cutting technology.
Bottom edge strips and corner parts are manufactured fow new cathode plates when required.
Permanent Edge Strip Manufacturing Unit
This unit is used to extrude the permanent edge strip directly onto the side and bottom edges of the plate.
Corner Edge Strip unit
It is used to extrude the edge strip on the bottom corner parts to perfectly join the 3 edge strips sides of the plate. It is called "U-edge strip" and it is used when required by the customer.
For Repair And Maintenance
Preforation Unit
This medium size unit perforates the edges of the plates that have hanger bars. It can be set-up according to each plate dimensions and requirements.
Automated Brushing Machine
This unit brushes the plate without damaging the surface. It does not require any liquids or abrasives.
Tension Removal And Straightening
This unit removes all tensions of the plate after all maintenance process phases. It also assures the verticality and straightness of the plate.
